2020 VIAA Nationals Results
Today the VIAA Nationals was dominated by women. Five women each in different divisions competed in two disciplines at 40 cm target at a distance of 18 meters.
For our women recurve, we have Kizzel Nape and Ternia Williams, -cadet division from Virgin Gorda and Javlyn Frett, Women’s, from East End Tortola. After qualifications, which took place on 19th of December 2020, the qualifying scores were as follows:
Kizzell Nape – Cadet Archer – 179/600
Terniah Williams – Cadet Archer – 273/600
Javlyn Frett – Womens – 319/600
Today, the 20th of December, in the medal rounds the battle began. In the Bronze Medal Match T. Williams, former VI NASP Top Girl, stayed focus and won her first match against K. Nape, 6-2, and moved on to the Gold Medal Match against J. Frett, taking the gold with another match win of 6-2.
In our Compound, Women’s Division the competitors were Ritseeniyah Georges, ranked 261 in the world, from Northside Tortola and Winnette Lawrence, ranked 182 in the world, from Brewers Bay. Both women have represented the territory in domestic and International tournaments. After Qualifications the scores were as follows:
Winnette Lawrence – 496/600
Ritseeniyah Georges – 471/600
At the end of the Gold medal match, R. Georges took home the gold with a score of 122-120.
The art of archery is one of the oldet sports known. Archers have to contend with the elements and stay focus through out the shot process. While shooting scores for qulifications our archers were also uploading their scores for the second stage of the World Archery Indoor Series Championships. With three chances to score and upload to the Ianseo website, World Archery will be choosing the best out of 3 scores. Wih unpredictable weather and rain off and on, the archers pulled through and displayed real stamina. The Indoor Worlds Series Championships is one of the virtual tournaments that have been created to keep archers shooting amid COVID restrictions.
